What is Domestic Violence and Domestic Abuse?
Simply, domestic violence and domestic abuse are violence and or abuse that occurs within an intimate relationship or within a domestic setting, i.e. family home.
Pertaining to Perpetrators, without discrimination based on sex, sexuality, race or beliefs, access to effective counselling interventions is required.
Pertaining to Victims, without discrimination based on sex, sexuality, race or beliefs, access to effective counselling interventions is required.
And this is the case within TonicTalk’s private practice. We offer all our services without any form of discrimination. We are here to offer appropriate support and services to Victims and perpetrators.
Sadly, however, this is not generally the case. Services are generally denied based on sex. The vast majority of Victim support services are generally only available to women. And the majority of Perpetrator support services are only available to men.
Given the nature of current politics and the way supposed support groups seek funding, Domestic Violence and Domestic Abuse have become political issues. However, in reality, they are personal and interpersonal issues and should always be considered as such.
As far as adults are concerned, anyone, male or female, heterosexual or homosexual, can be a perpetrator or victim of Domestic Violence or Domestic Abuse. However, political grifters, (scammers), and those seeking funding for their particular services will claim that Domestic Violence and Abuse are ‘Gendered’ issues. While it is true that in a physical altercation between a man and a woman, because of strength differences, a woman is more likely to be injured than a man it does not change the fact that Domestic violence tends to be reciprocal. Again, yes, we can examine police statistics, however, men tend not to report domestic violence and abuse and therefore the statistics are terribly inaccurate. At best estimates, Domestic Violence and Abuse between adults tend to be reciprocal.
In a world where the political narrative is that women are equally capable as men, it is curious that when it comes to this subject, women are less capable. In fact, the narrative seems to infantilise women and make men responsible not only for their own violence and abuse but also, responsible for the crimes of women.
It is more helpful for all those actually affected by Domestic Violence and Abuse to put the politics to one side and treat each case individually rather than using gendered profiling. Support and services both for the victims and perpetrators in the form of courses should be equally available regardless of sex.
Victims of Domestic Violence and Abuse
Those same political grifters would have us believe that the main perpetrator of Domestic Violence and Abuse are Men and the Main Victims are Women. Furthermore, they would also have you believe that Women are the most vulnerable people in society and should be protected as a special class. This could not be further from the truth.
The most vulnerable people in society are CHILDREN.
The most abused people in society are CHILDREN.
The least reported crimes of Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation are committed against CHILDREN.
AND the people that Abuse and Use children the most are …. WOMEN.
But then how helpful is the last statement? Is it a competition? Who is the Badest or Who is the Goodest? It is ridiculous. What is needed is recognition of the issues and then corrective measures taken regardless of the perpetrator’s sex. Children are the most vulnerable, most powerless least protected and least represented members of society.
A perpetrator is just that and if willing they need specialist counselling to help them.
